How to make photo's look professional - Read at the bottom of this page : D
|
The model/talent industry is not an easy place to work. It's not just a pretty or handsome face that gets you through life. Think of your friends. Do they like you because your beautiful or is it because you've got a great personality, can make people laugh, are confident, and can just be yourself? If you make it to the professional industry, be prepared to work hard for your money! Expect some surprises, whether they be good or bad. To make it in this business, you need to be tough, confident of yourself, and learn from your mistakes. Never take anything for granted, especially if you are called for an audition and remember that nothing is ever guaranteed!. But before all this happens, lets talk about photo's. An excellent headshot is what may bring you possible success. This is what modeling agencies use to market their talent. And if you start getting jobs, you mayl be required to have a composite card and portfolio made. Normally, you don't need a modeling composite until your over 5 years old, but some agencies, casting directors, and producers require one. I do make composites for my models at a discount. Please email me if your interested. I am a non-exclusive
agency. This basically means that if you sign with Dazzle Model
& Talent, you can still sign with other modeling agencies. You can
always try to market yourself, but this is usually a lot harder to
do without an agent because we have connections with certain clients and
they will normally go through an agency rather than just take someone off
the street, even if you have good photos. Personality and confidence
plays a big part in this industry. Like I said earlier, its not just
a pretty face clients look for. There are plus size, geeky looking,
nerdy, and elderly people also that clients look for. And
sometimes, you can make more money as a commercial model than a beautiful
6 foot runway type model. There are a lot of types of different
people that ad agencies and casting directors look for and they do not have to look perfect.
Think about commercials that you have seen on TV...not everyone in a
commercial is of perfect size and beauty. They are just regular people who
us, as the audience, can relate to. So, its not just beauty that can
capture a great job, but a shining personality who can sell a product!
And remember that getting an acting class under your belt gives you more
experience, which may make you more desirable by a client. But, this
is not required. HOW TO MAKE PHOTO'S LOOK MORE PROFESSIONAL I know right now the economy is not good and money is tight. I will be requiring all my talent to get professional "looking" photo's done. If you can afford a photographer, that is great! But alot of us can't do that so I'm going to give you a few tips on how to make photo's look more professional for a composite, portfolio, and especially for the web pages that I put up for my talent. This is all assuming you are using a digital camera, which most everyone now owns. 1. First thing, please make sure you set your camera to the highest quality or resolution. This will make the files larger and much easier to work with, clearer, and less pixilated. If you don't know how to do this, read your directions that came with the camera. Also, make sure your camera is set to auto-flash so it will only flash if there's not enough lighting. 2. Choose a day to do a photoshoot and where you want to do it. Try to have at least 3 to 4 outfit changes. Also, different hairstyles is always good, if possible, and don't forget about hair accessories like scarves, headbands, hair ties, bows, and even hats. 3. If you will be doing this in the house, hang a white or light colored sheet or shoot against a solid colored wall. Try to be near a window as natural lighting will always give you the best shots. 4. If outside is where you choose to shoot, this is even better and gives you alot more possiblities with posing, backgrounds, etc. Shooting on a cloudy day is best. If it is sunny out, try not to put the model where the sun is shining on her face so her eyes are squinted. We want to see big eyes with lots of personality! Try a shady spot..under a tree, behind a big bush, or wherever else there is shade. If you've got a nice yard, you can hold your shoot here. Try to make sure the background looks nice. Trees, plants, flowers, and bushes are a few of many prospects you can use. Even concrete steps, a nice porch, beautiful landscaping are other ideas. Always watch your backgrounds. If you want a photo to look professional, you don't want people, houses, cars, and other things behind the model. 5. After you find a spot to shoot, have the model do some poses and other photo's where the model is unexpecting a camera shot. Take some serious and smiling photo's. Be unique. Have the model smell flowers, lean on an old barn, look backwards towards you. The different shots you can get are endless if you use your imagination. Remember to watch shadows on the face. Also, hats with a bill can put a dark shadow over the eyes, so watch this before you shoot. Don't just have the model move, but you move also taking different angles. Also, at this time, make sure you get close up head shots (but don't stand to close or the photo will be blurry), half body shots, and also full body shots. You can bring props with you like an umbrella, a pretty blanket to sit on, a picnic basket....again, endless possibilities. 6. Finally, after you have taken as many pictures as the model will allow, depending on age, download them to your computer and make sure you save them to a folder. If you want to crop some or make some photo's black and white..save these to a different folder so you always have the regular photo's in case you would need them. I could go on with
this forever, but just try to make the shoot fun. Especially for
little ones. I hope this will help some of you.
